Nurse Practitioners

As advance practitioners and independent nurse prescribers, Sally will see patients of all ages in a 12-15 minute surgery, consisting of appointments with a wide variety of acute illnesses and health problems. They will make an assessment, which may include a physical examination, make a diagnosis and decide with the patient on an appropriate course of treatment or on a management plan. This may include advice referral for further investigation, an appropriate prescription, or referral to another member of the medical team.

In some circumstances they will facilitate the issuing of medical certificates. Our nurse practitioners also see patients to discuss and prescribe contraceptive needs. Chronic disease management is usually monitored by the health sisters but they will see patients if an acute problem occurs. Patients who are trying to stop smoking can also see our nurse practitioners for support.

Our trained team of healthcare assistants help with Diabetic Clinics, COPD clinics, take bloods and ear syringing, B12 injections, flu vaccinations and INR. We are looking for them to take over more of the nurses traditional tasks to free them up for other chronic disease work.
