Non NHS Services

Non-NHS Fees

If a request for work is not covered by the NHS Primary Care Services contract, it may incur a charge for completion of the request as it will be classed as a non-NHS service.

Payments must be made prior to the completion of the work, and this can be made via cash or card at the surgery.

Our general turnaround time for the completion of private work is 28 working days, however we will always inform patients if this is subject to change. This may be due to GP holidays or requests that are considered more complex than usual.  All requests must include a signed consent form. Please see price list below for our current fees, which apply per patient. Please note, not all doctors at the practice carry out non-NHS work and the completion of work is at the discretion of the doctor.

If you require any further information please call us on 01530 270667 and ask to speak to a member of the secretary team or alternatively you can email us on measham.doctors@nhs.net

Please note these prices are applicable from April 2024

Requests for exemption from Jury Service – Information for patients

We receive many requests from patients who wish to be excused from Jury service. It is important to understand the process that happens when a patient requests to be excused from Jury service.

Issuing a letter to excuse a patient from Jury service is NOT an NHS contractual obligation and it is therefore at the discretion of each individual GP as to whether a letter can be issued.

If a GP chooses to issue an exemption letter, this is a legal document which binds that GP to the court. The GP can be summoned by the court to swear under oath that the patient is completely unable to attend court. Should the court disagree with the GP’s opinion then that GP may be found to be in contempt of court. This has significant personal implications for the GP themselves.

The court can make “reasonable adjustments” and these allow most patients that are concerned about how they would manage to successfully participate in Jury service.

Due to the potential consequences for the GP, they must be absolutely certain that there are no circumstances under which the patient would be able to attend for Jury service, before issuing any letter.

This means that in general, GPs will only issue letters for patients with exceptional circumstances. Examples would be patients who are housebound with a terminal illness or patients who are admitted to hospital on the date the jury is due to sit.

If you think you require a letter to exempt you from Jury service, please speak to reception who will ask you to submit a letter/form giving information to the GP about your circumstances. This will allow the GP to decide whether or not they are able to issue a letter for you.
