Measham Medical Unit Patient Transport Service
The Surgery Shuttle – ‘The Gift of a Lift’
For patients over the age of 55, we offer a free and flexible shuttle bus service to any patient who needs transportation in order to get down to the surgery for an appointment.
If you are over the age of 55, please feel free to call the surgery and enquire about the service.
On the 22nd February 2010 Measham Medical Unit launched its new patient transport service.
The Barbara Boardman-Weston Charitable Fund, has very kindly purchased and fully funded a new 15 seat minibus.
Mrs Boardman-Weston lived locally and was a patient at the surgery for many years. It was her wish that better facilities were made available to our elderly people when visiting the Unit. When approached by Mrs Boardman-Weston’s family, doctors and staff at the surgery met and decided that patient transportation was a problem for many patients.
Due to the rural location of some of our catchment area, some patients live in villages with little or no direct public transport to Measham and often rely on the good will of family and friends.
As a result of this generous donation, we have been fortunate to purchase a new 15 seat minibus, with full adaptation to allow for patients who use wheelchairs or walking aids. It has a fully automatic tail-lift together with easy access low steps and handrails to help patients that may have problems accessing normal cars and buses.
The service has been fully funded by The Charitable Trust and as a result there will be no charge to our patients. The service is available for patients over 55 years of age.
The minibus can be booked by telephone at the time of making your appointment or in person with our reception staff.
On behalf of The Boardman-Weston family and all our staff at Measham Medical Unit we hope ‘THE GIFT OF A LIFT’ will be a great success and benefit to our elderly patients.
